How renewable works
Wind Generation
Wind generation captures the energy contained in the wind. The wind is a result of atmospheric motions caused by the heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the irregularity of the earth's surface, and the rotation of the planet. Wind flow patterns and speeds which vary greatly and are modified by bodies of water, differences in terrain and vegetation. We use wind energy for many purposes: flying a kite, sailing a boat and even producing clean electricity.

Wind power describe the process where the wind is used to produce clean electricity. Wind turbines convert “kinetic” energy in the wind into “mechanical” power. Mechanical power can be used for specific tasks historically such as pumping water or grinding grain in flour or with the use of a generator can convert this mechanical power into electricity via the use of a wind turbine.

A wind turbine works opposite to a fan. Instead of using electricity to make air move, wind turbines use air movement to make electricity. The wind turns the blades, which rotate the shaft, which connects to a generator and in return produces electricity.
Benefits of Wind Generation
  • The wind is free and with modern technology it can be captured efficiently
  • Once the wind turbine is built, the energy it produces does not cause green house gases or other pollutants
  • Although wind turbines can be very tall, each takes up only a small plot of land. This means that the land below can still be used. This is especially the case in agricultural areas where farming can still continue
  • Many people find wind farms an interesting feature of the landscape
  • Remote, areas that are not connected to the electricity power grid, can use wind turbines to produce their own supply
  • Wind turbines have a role to play in both the developed and the third world.
  • Wind turbines are available in a range of sizes, which means a vast range of people and businesses can use them. Single households, to small towns and villages, can make good use of the range of wind turbines available today
  • Using this type of energy to generate electricity is not dependent upon the price of uranium, oil, or other types of fuel. This makes electricity costs more stable and over the long run, a competitive advantage.
